Keep Yourself Safe With These Free Dating Tips

Your girlfriend tried online dating and found a great guy, but you have been hesitant to try it yourself. But, seeing your friend so happy, you decide to give it a go and see if Mr. Right is online. You set up your profile and picture.

Several days later, you check your inbox and find a message from Todd. He sounds interesting and you decide to meet in person. Before you go on your date, you need to take a look at these free dating tips to help keep you safe.

Be Nosy

Try to find out as much as you can about your date before you actually meet the person. Use social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, to see if his profiles are similar to his dating profile. If you see that he is representing himself as a party animal on Facebook and a computer geek on his dating profile, that might give you pause. If you feel that something just is not quite right, it is perfectly fine for you to cancel the date.

Communicate Your Boundaries

You need to be clear in your own mind what behavior is acceptable to you on a date. How do you want to be treated? Clearly set your limits while you are on your date. Setting clear limits is one of the most helpful things you can do to avoid being victimized.

Keep your first date short. Meet in public, not at your home or his home. Take two cars to get to your meeting place and make sure you ask for separate checks so you can split the bill.

Inform Your Family

Tell your family, roommate or friends who you are going with, where you are going and what time you expect to be back home. That way, if the date did go wrong, someone would start looking for you more quickly if you did not come home as expected.

Be Unrevealing

One the date, keep your personal information to yourself. If you would not be comfortable telling a complete stranger something about yourself, do not tell your date. He is basically a complete stranger to you at this point.

Make sure you keep your children safe, as well. It is fun to brag about kids, but do not mention where they go to school or other private information about them until you know your date much better.

If Things Go Wrong

If you find yourself in a situation where your date is pressing you to do things you do not want to do and will not take no for an answer, get up and leave. You do not owe this person any explanation. If he follows you to the car and will not leave you alone, go back into the building and call 911.

If a date has ended badly, and you notice that your he is following you as you drive home, change your route and drive to the police station instead. Do not drive directly home if you are being followed.

Odds Are In Your Favor

Your date will most likely go smoothly. Most dates either work out well or you both just go home and try again with someone else. However, there are always the exceptions and it pays to be aware of free dating tips that will keep you safe just in case.
